As we mark the anniversary of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE), it is an opportune, yet ironic, time to celebrate the fundamental values of liberty and individual rights enshrined in the Second Amendment. July 1st, 1972, the ATF became an independent agency under the Department of Treasury. Today marks 51 years of torment for law-abiding citizens. As staunch advocates of dismantling the ATF, let’s shed light on the concerns surrounding the agency’s actions and emphasize the importance of defending and preserving the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

Protecting the Second Amendment

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms. However, The ATF’s regulations and enforcement actions often infringe upon this fundamental right. From burdensome licensing requirements to arbitrary classifications of firearms, the agency’s policies create barriers for law-abiding citizens to exercise their right to self-defense and personal protection. It is essential to recognize that responsible gun ownership is not only a constitutional right but also a means to safeguarding individual liberties and deterring potential threats to freedom.

Overreach and Targeting of Law-Abiding Citizens

The ATF’s overreach and targeting of law-abiding citizens undermine the trust and credibility of the agency. Instances of excessive regulations, unwarranted surveillance, and controversial sting operations raise concerns about the misuse of power and the erosion of civil liberties. Instead of focusing on the pursuit of actual criminals and dangerous individuals, the ATF often ends up targeting responsible gun owners and legitimate firearms businesses, diverting valuable resources from addressing genuine public safety concerns.

Role of Education and Responsible Gun Ownership

Rather than relying solely on regulatory measures, an emphasis on education and responsible gun ownership can foster a safer society. We argue that investing in comprehensive firearms training programs and promoting responsible gun ownership would contribute to reducing accidents and misuse of firearms. Educating individuals about firearm safety, proper storage, and responsible usage empowers them to make informed decisions and reinforces a culture of responsible ownership, ensuring that the Second Amendment is respected. The reality remains, criminals are going to commit crime!

Impact on Personal Safety and Self-Defense

The ATF’s restrictive policies can have unintended consequences for personal safety and self-defense. By impeding access to firearms or imposing unnecessary restrictions, law-abiding citizens may find themselves unable to adequately protect themselves and their loved ones from potential threats. It is crucial to recognize the vital role that firearms play in deterring crime and preserving personal safety. Responsible gun ownership is a cornerstone of a free society, ensuring that individuals can defend themselves and their families when faced with dangerous situations.

On the anniversary of the ATF, it is imperative to advocate for the protection of the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding gun owners. Our stance reminds us of the importance of preserving individual liberties, promoting responsible gun ownership, and safeguarding personal safety in a society that cherishes the values of freedom and self-determination.

  2. There really is NO REASON, as far as I can see, why we even need the National Firearms Act, Restriction of firearms of ANY kind, nor even the BATFE. The areas of law that are covered by this bureau within, or independent of,the U.S. Treasury Department can easily be managed by federal legislation. Specifically, when it comes to firearms ownership, the Bill of Rights, which are fundamental and SUPERCEDE any privileges given by government to the people SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. If a criminal uses firearms or explosives to commit crimes, federal charges should be imposed as well as state and local charges. I have no problem with that. What should it matter the style, size or capability of any firearm that I may freely purchase, as an American Citizen? As long as I am using any such item in a lawful way, I should never be restricted or limited in my ability to obtain, possess, and use such firearm in a lawful manner. Congress’ duty is to uphold and preserve the absolute rights of the citizens as memorialized by the Bill of Rights. Those who criminally abuse those rights lose their status as a citizen when convicted as felons, and they have a tough road ahead of them in reinstating their full rights and privileges as citizens after a period of parole. Time to abolish this agency. IF Congress wishes to impose taxes for firearms, tobacco , explosives, etc., they may use the IRS to collect those federal taxes – but be mindful that taxes can be reduced or eliminated altogether for such items. Raising such taxes would ultimately meet a threshold whereupon citizens of less economic means might not be able to purchase such protected and un-infringable items, and Congress would be persuaded to reduce those too costly taxes. Thus, Only Congress would have any say over the taxes imposed. Not the IRS, not some bureau or agency within the government departments.

The ATF needs to be shut down, along with the Dept. of Education, FBI, CIA, Energy, and a host of other U.S. Gov’t agencies. The private sector doesn’t need any of these agencies, and we would save hundreds of billions of dollars in wasted taxes that could be used on infrastructure. The 1934 Firearms Act needs to also be shut down, and citizens need to be able to own firearms comparable to those the rogue government agencies like the FBI use. Criminal laws need to be strengthened and prison sentences toughened to lower all sorts of crimes. If the existing agencies are so effective, why is crime so rampant? For example. my house was invaded and my gun collection stolen while I was in the hospital. When I asked the ATF and FBI to look into the burglary, as well as no Federal involvement in the sentencing (they did not care!), they never got back to me. Only the County and State people in Nevada even gave it the time of day. The criminals only received a slap on the wrist. One criminal got a year in our local prison! Another is evading restitution. There were eight people involved.

    • I agree 100% I stopped complying, that’s the first step. Any law that contradicts the US constitution becomes null and void and should be actively disobeyed, Supreme Court ruling James Madison 1813.

  4. God help us if the ATF has their way. This Righteous & Free Country we love will become something worse than anyone can imagine!, backsliding to the middle ages at the very least!, remember witch hunts?, Thank you ATF…?

It is not only the BATFE but the rest of the government that needs to be reminded strongly and in uncertain terms that the politicians are servants to the people and not the other way around. This includes the President.
It is long past time that politicians learn to abide by the Constitution or be forced to leave their office.

  6. Something has to be done about the ATF, too many regulations that they create and tell us its law. They don’t make laws Congress does.. I’m all for disbanding them because they’re beyond control to a citizens were for a game for them! And I don’t like the odds. I’ll leave this, as is enough said.!

I will never forget what they did to Randy Weaver and his family at Ruby Ridge, or David Koresh and his followers at Waco. I predicted every move the government did. I know what the government is capable of. They tortured and murdered my father during the Winter of 1960-1. He died a slow death, succumbing in May, 1972. We had actual WWII type Nazis guarding our house with a Colonel Notzelman in charge. They cut off my Dad’s Navy paycheck, which was only $2,500/year, to try to starve us into submission. We, our neighbors, and our relatives were defiant. I had to my newspaper route money of $19.60/month to help us survive. I could not talk to anyone about our house arrest while I was allowed out to do my route. As long as I live, I will never give up or register my weapons. The people running our government behind the scenes are 100% evil.

I still remember turning in my 12 ga 23/4in shell shooting street sweeper so I wouldn’t be a Felon. Did they reimburse me nope all because even though it was Legally purchased as a 12 ga shotgun they changed their minds and called it a Destructive Device overnight.
