A new ban on a wide range of legal firearms may go to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote as early as this week. The bill aims to define a host of semi-automatic firearms as “assault weapons” and seeks to ban them along with magazines with a capacity greater than 15 rounds.
Democrat lawmakers on the House Judiciary Committee voted to move the bill out of the Judiciary Committee and on to the Rules Committee to discuss a potential vote.

A new “assault weapons” ban has passed the Judiciary Committee in a vote along party lines and is set to be reviewed by the House Rules Committee on Wednesday and may make it to the House floor for a vote as early as this week.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2022 attempts to ban the sale or possession of a broad-sweeping range of firearms that would be defined as “assault weapons.” The ban would also include magazines with a capacity greater than 15 rounds.
‘‘(v)(1) It shall be unlawful for a person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a semiautomatic assault weapon. “

Lawmakers Speak Out
The bill’s main sponsor is Rep. David Cicilline (D-Rhode Island) and is co-sponsored by 212 Democrat lawmakers. Cicilline recently made his beliefs clear when, during a debate on the House floor, he lost his composure and yelled, “Spare me the bullshit about Constitutional rights.”
Republican lawmakers have already begun pushing back against this bill. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) vehemently opposed this bill’s attempted infringement of the Second Amendment.
“The Democrats’ bill is going to ban a certain class of firearms from all law-abiding American citizens… The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, plain and simple. If this bill becomes law, millions – millions – of firearms that Americans legally own today will become illegal,”

Gun Control Doesn’t Save Lives
The stated purpose of gun control is always framed as wanting to save lives and prevent mass shootings. All good-hearted Americans across the country want their communities to be safe and incidents of mass shootings to be eradicated, however, studies have found that “bans on assault weapons [sic] AR-15 style rifles have no clear effects on the incidence of mass shootings or on the incidence of victim fatalities from mass shootings.”
Not only does the language of the bill seemingly mirror the words of the original 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, but so does the timing. The original ban passed in 1994 was also during a midterm election year and the liberal attacks on the Second Amendment did not prove fruitful in that election.
Many Democrats were unsuccessful in their races due to the voters disagreeing with the sweeping infringement of the Second Amendment that was ultimately included in a broad anti-crime package written by President Biden as a Senator.
Gun Control as Political Maneuvering
The electorate of today differs significantly from the voters of 1994. Today, with the presence of the 24-hour news cycle and targeted news through social media, the liberal media uses stories about gun violence to ensure it remains at the forefront of the public discourse.
Democrats hope that bringing an overreaching gun control bill to the floor for a vote will energize Democrat voters who currently lack enthusiasm compared to Republicans. In a June ABC News/Ipsos poll, Republicans held a 13% advantage in voter enthusiasm. 57% of Republican voters said that they were very enthusiastic to vote in November compared to only 44% of Democrats.
Democrats are hoping that pandering to far-left groups by attempting to force more gun control on law-abiding citizens will distract their supporters from the negative impact that Democrat policies are having on their day-to-day lives at the gas pumps and grocery stores.

This will never stand. We are America not Europe. Many have pledged an oath to the Constitution and they should honor that oath.
It’s all unconstitutional. The politicians who support this are illegally so doing. Folks, read up on how the early days just before WWII began in Germany. The similarity is frightening. Once the firearms are taken away from the honest, law abiding citizens, there is no defense against run-away government. Right now we need to stand together and stand up for our Rights. The present administration is out of control and terrified of the law-abiding honest gun owners. When someone is that frightened of someone else, there is something wrong. Yes, the present government is highly wrong and disgraceful to all who have fought for our Rights before our generation. It is our sacred duty to keep these Rights in place.
Sorry, but now, after two plus years of governmental tyranny across the world and right here on our shores, if they pass this ban, this is a full-on declaration of war. I will not go quietly into the night.

Criminals will be criminals why are they takeing my rights away but giving them freely to other countrys citizens to use in a war were not part of. No to the ban.
The right to weapons for defense of ourselves, our families, our communities and our way of life is an inalienable human right – we’ve always had it and we’ll always continue to have it – regardless of what local, state or federal law, the US Constitution, or anything or anyone else may say. It’s sad that with over 10,000 years of human history to review, some people are still too stupid to understand human nature. Weapons will ALWAYS be necessary if you want to live free. If you’re ok with giving up freedom for security go live in Europe, they’d love to have you. Meanwhile the rest of us will hold down the fort in America for you when/if you change your mind.

What part of don’t infringe on my constitutional rights do they not understand…!!!! It’s already been ruled upon.
This is ridiculous and shouldn’t even be considered! Taking legal firearms away from American citizens is an outrage, and unconstitutional PERIOD! People have the right to these firearms and are protected under the 2nd amendment to try and change that in anyway is outrageous! And if this were to pass (which I doubt) they’re going to have a heck of a time trying to get these firearms from law-abiding, hard working, legal American citizens! This isn’t how this country was founded or the grounds that the constitution stands for!
