Morgantown, WV – Big Daddy Guns’ lease at “The Deck” location in Morgantown, WV was regrettably terminated in response to anti-gun activists attempts to defame and slander the Big Daddy brand.
Big Daddy Guns had every intention of fulfilling our signed agreement, but were denied access to our unit. We hope this is not a decision they made lightly because the unintended consequences will be numerous and varied.
Despite Protect Morgantown acknowledging they are a small group of 3-5 people, it was believed to be in the best interest of profits to remove Big Daddy Guns rather than to support free and legal enterprise.
Big Daddy Guns has complied with all federal, state, and local requirements to operate in the location and had a longstanding lease agreement with Hardy World LLC. Nevertheless, when the small minority opposition could not legally remove our organization they took to harassment and personal threats against the developer. We hold the opinion that Hardy World made this decision under duress and fear; we still wish them the best moving forward.
Regardless of the circumstances, Big Daddy Guns warns any business wanting to open in Morgantown that there will be consequences to those actions. These anti-gun activists are also anti-business and anti-freedom; this is why no businesses last in the downtown area. Not to mention, they refuse to accept any national brands in favor of local alternatives.
With similar initiatives country-wide, Protect Morgantown is most likely part of a grander scheme to destroy your right to keep and bear arms. Similar zoning schemes have been seen in Chicago, Texas, and other areas to prevent firearms retailers from opening. Knowing this, it is disheartening that Hardy World would succumb to such a diabolical plan. Unfortunately, their actions have set a precedent and created a template for other anti-gun activists to successfully prevent firearms retailers from opening everywhere.
Hardy World should have taken a hardline stance and kept the commitment they signed with Big Daddy Guns. In choosing to terminate our lease agreement, every future tenant will have to be supported by a fringe group or they will be subject to the same protests. It is incredibly short-sighted to believe that terminating our agreement will end the scrutiny. Instead, now, an emboldened Protect Morgantown and anyone else who learns they can bully their organization into submission.
Realistically, firearms retailers are not the issue at hand. Within five miles of our proposed location are 14 other retailers; 11 of which sell modern sporting rifles (MSRs), also known as AR-15 style rifles.
While this may be a sickening loss for the Second Amendment, it is merely a battle. We have a war to win and intend on doing so. Big Daddy Guns staunchly supports arming everyday citizens with the guns, gear, ammo, and accessories they need for self-protection. This laser-focused mission will not be deterred. We are working on new locations in Morgantown to operate in the future. Stay frosty.
