Good afternoon Chairman. Maybe third time’s the charm… My name is Nicholas Lahera. I represent Big Daddy Unlimited and Big Daddy Guns as the head of Public Relations. We are one of the largest firearms retailers in the state of Florida, and I am here to express our support of SB 150.
Governor DeSantis called for Constitutional Carry in his State of the State, and he is now on record supporting open carry. Going further, he has placed the burden on the legislature to add this measure to the bill. As a presumptive 2024 presidential candidate, it is the job of these chambers to place his agenda at the forefront.
25 states have Constitutional Carry, and it is long overdue that Florida have it as well. Not permitless carry! Constitutional Carry which needs to include open carry.
47 states allow for open carry. The Governor named his book, The Courage to be Free. It is time that our actions live up to our words. With Governor DeSantis at the helm, freedom should be at the forefront of every decision and this should be no different.
Failure to accomplish this makes you the scapegoat for the Governor which would be a damaging look for both parties.
In terms of open carry, Florida is ONLY in the company of Illinois and New York. Both states with the strictest gun laws, and devastating crime rates. We need to do better in Florida. Open carry is not a threat to tourism, it’s not a threat to Floridians, and it should not be a threat to this bill.
Our organization has the vision of normalizing and destigmatizing firearms and the gun-buying process. We can only accomplish this by fighting for freedom and full Constitutional Carry which includes the right to open carry. Thank you for your time.
