Glock 48 Striker-Fired Subcompact 9mm Pistol

The Glock 48 is a semi-automatic striker-fired 9mm pistol designed for concealed carry. It has a 10-round capacity with a grip just long enough for a full pinky finger grip. The grip is a little longer which allows you to use your pinky to increase your control. It also has a longer sight radius than the Glock 43 and 43X.

Be sure to check out The Gun Show episode on grip strength to learn how important your pinky is to gain the most control and the most accuracy with your grip.

Magazine

The Glock 48 is a single-stack with a 10-round capacity. Being a single stack, it has a very thin profile. It makes it easier and more comfortable to conceal versus a double-stack magazine.

Handling

The grip is very comfortable, and it includes an integral beavertail. It has an integral undercut in the trigger guard. Why is that good? A beavertail is awesome because it protects the back of the shooter’s hand from the slide coming back.

These features allow for a nice, high grip that provides maximum control.

Accuracy

We have many different Glocks including the Glock 43 and the 43X, and it’s interesting to compare one to the other. The Glock 48 has a longer sight radius.

“A little terminology for you, sight radius is the distance between the front and rear sight.”

Denny Chapman – The Gun Show

The longer the sight radius, the more accurate the gun shoots and the tighter the shooter can hone in on the target. The longer slide also adds more weight on the front end, so it dampens the muzzle flip. This gives the shooter faster target acquisition ability.

All these features are designed to make the shooter more accurate.

Versatility

Glocks are easy to field strip and maintain. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Physically inspect the magazine and chamber to ensure the gun is empty.
  2. Pull the trigger.
  3. Pinch the slide back just slightly, and pull the take takedown levers down.
  4. That allows the slide to separate from the frame leaving the firearm in two pieces.
  5. Separate the recoil assembly (spring & rod) from the slide.
  6. Remove the barrel from the slide.
  7. Now the Glock is in four pieces: Frame, Slide, Recoil Assembly, and Barrel.

Striker-fired guns, Glocks in particular, have a great feature called the striker block. Glocks are designed to be drop safe. The striker will not come forward until the striker block is depressed, which won’t happen until the trigger is completely depressed.

Verdict

The Glock 48 is a great option for a compact, everyday concealed carry gun.
