Only a patronizing, politically-motivated, dark money machine like the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence could make the January 6 events at the Capitol about the disarmament of our population and erosion of our civil liberties.
January 6, 2021 was many things: a failure of security, a call for electoral reform (though done in an improper fashion), and, at its worst, a lawless approach to exercising the First Amendment that nobody, including President Trump, has glorified. What it is not, however, is an excuse to fabricate yet another fear mongering leftist outrage mob surrounding lawful gun ownership. If you haven’t read the Brady Campaign’s latest report on “How Second Amendment Extremism Led to January 6th,” spare yourself the outrage. Regrettably, tirelessly, and listlessly, I poured through it, so you wouldn’t have to.
A tired mantra for the gun-grabbing left is misuse of the word “extremism.” Those of us who support the Constitution, fight for the absolute protection of our Constitutional rights, and actively seek liberty on all fronts, are not extremists by any stretch of the word. We, like them, are Americans. Terms like “extremist,” “extremism,” and domestic “terrorism” – used 20, 24, and five times respectively in their report – are words reserved for opponents of freedom who use violence against those who cherish the God-given rights we have in America.
Make no mistake. Labeling Second Amendment supporters as “extreme” is highly calculated. Gun grabbers in the Brady Campaign and in the mainstream media are actively working to degrade our social status and make us a target rather than a family member, friend, neighbor, or fellow citizen. This argument makes a great fundraising appeal, but their endgame is much bigger. The Progressive Left wants to fundamentally shift the narrative and assume permanent power under outrageous wokeism. Brady United, in all of their marketing and branding language, claims that they support efforts to decrease gun violence. This report, however, stinks of partisan propaganda and proves they only stand for disarming Americans and destroying those who do not comply with their ideology.
One of the overarching themes of the piece is an emphasis on what the Second Amendment is not. To the Brady Organization, the Second Amendment is not for self-defense, tyranny, or militias.
Let’s brush up on the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. First, the Preamble reads: “…insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…”
Now, the Second Amendment: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Their argument relies on the ignorance of their readership because everything they stand against was explicitly mentioned by the Founding Fathers. Distorting history is a disservice to everyone, and it will not be tolerated.
This insufferable “95 Theses,” furthermore, harps on the comparisons between white supremacy and Second Amendment “extremism.” This is going to sound like something from the Babylon Bee, but it bluntly states, “Second Amendment extremism, like January 6, is inseparable from white supremacist ideology. It should therefore be no surprise that white supremacy is foundational to the Capitol attack; history shows that domestic extremism fueled by white supremacy has a violent track record.”
For a gun violence organization, they seem to be highly motivated by race. It begs us to ask, what about firearm homicides or suicides are exclusive to white men as the piece claims?
Interestingly, the report uses “white” followed by some distinguishing factor (i.e. supremacy, -ness, mob, men, or any other iteration you can think of) a total of 37 times. Not to point fingers, but the Brady Campaign is an organization made of white elites who are telling minorities how to address racism. It is the likes of the Brady Campaign and other Progressive organizations that create the push for overarching terms like “Latinx” that put vast and diverse Latin cultures into one neatly tied package. As an actual Latino, that term is offensive to my culture and is not even marginally accepted by the community.
It almost appears as though this report is not about January 6th or the Second Amendment, but as a hit piece on race – a characteristic that nobody can change. They even go as far as to say, “To increase sales, [the gun industry] has focused on explicit advertising toward communities of color. Yet even as it markets firearms to nonwhite consumers, the gun industry continues to center itself around the white male experience.”
Take a moment to digest that. If I read that correctly, when firearms dealers sell to minorities, they are purposefully supporting white supremacy. I’m no dictator nor white supremacist, but if I were, I surely wouldn’t be arming people whom I systematically want to dispose of; call me crazy!
In fact, 58 percent of all new gun owners are Black. This statistic terrifies those that work at Brady because a defenseless Black population is a controlled one. Black Americans are arming themselves for self-defense and the firearms community has welcomed them with open arms because of our strong values in liberty.
White supremacy is surely not the reason that the gun industry is advertising to minorities. With the police being defunded, protecting one’s self and their families has become so much more crucial.
Time to address the elephant in the room: what does January 6, 2021 have to do with firearms? After all, if a gun control policy group found it poignant enough to create a publicized report, it should have some merits towards greater gun control, right? No. Last time I checked, and I checked right after reading the Brady report because of sheer confusion, the only firearm used on that day was by a Capitol officer who shot and killed a citizen, Ashli Babbitt. The Brady Campaign is the same organization that stands against law enforcement and wants them defunded (Brady United).
They so desperately attempt to make January 6th about gun violence, but there’s no evidence. One of their largest takeaways is that if the District of Columbia didn’t have such “lax gun regulations” (yes, you read that correctly), that this would have ended much more peacefully. Washington, D.C. does not have light gun laws by any means, so it’s hard to determine what they truly mean by this unjustified assessment.
The report, while only 16 pages in length, could prompt a discussion that would take a novel to completely unravel and dispel in its entirety. I’ll save you from that, and I’ll stop here soon.
Before then, let’s leave it here; the inauspicious Brady United report is a mischaracterization of the Second Amendment community, an assault on American values, and an attempt to further destabilize the country. From their misuse of words like “machine gun” to their blatant assault on freedom-loving Americans, this report’s agenda is despicable.
