    Hi-Point Firearms 995TS 9mm Carbine

The Hi-Point Firearms 995TS 9mm Carbine is an economically priced, semi-automatic pistol-caliber carbine. Gun owners across America have seen the Hi-Point memes and funny content regarding Hi-Point firearms, but the truth is they’re out there, they’re available, and they’re economical.

First Look at the Hi-Point 9mm Carbine

The Hi-Point 9mm Carbine has a 16.5” threaded barrel, a one-piece polymer stock, integral accessory rails, and adjustable sights. It comes with an all-weather, polymer skeletonized stock with an internal recoil buffer.

This carbine is rated for +P ammunition, so it is able to run self-defense rounds.

    Magazine

It comes with one 10-round, 9mm, single-stack magazine. Here’s a little historical context to explain this magazine:

This carbine was designed back around 1994 when the assault weapons ban was passed. The assault weapons ban included a magazine restriction that limited all magazine capacities to 10 rounds. That’s one of the reasons why it was designed around this 10-round single-stack magazine. If this carbine had been designed after the ban ended in 2004, it most likely would have been designed with a double stack, higher capacity magazine.

The magazine inserts through the grip just like a pistol. It has the magazine release button in a very similar place as a pistol as well.

    Bolt Handle

The gun has some very distinctive features. It has a last round bolt-hold open which provides several benefits including faster reloading and improved airflow through the barrel.

It has a pretty substantial bolt handle which is able to lock back on an empty chamber without a magazine as well.

     Accessories and Customization

It comes with accessory rails surrounding the firearm to allow for a variety of attachments. They’re included under the handguard and under the barrel. There’s a Picatinny rail that goes across the back. It comes with adjustable sights that include a removable rear-sight piece.

It can easily be replaced with a red dot sight or another aiming device. The rail is ready to load with a light, a laser, a combination, or another aiming device. The buttstock is slightly adjustable for the length of pull.

    Verdict

Hi-Points may not have the best reputation amongst gun owners, but they’re out there, they’re available, and they’re economical. Don’t overlook these American-made firearms that are always priced to sell.
