Morgantown, WV – As of about 9:00am this morning, Protect Morgantown, the opposition group to Big Daddy Guns, has declared that they are not participating in the publicly presented challenge that would have gone a long way to supporting underprivileged children in our community.
Unfortunately, this action revealed their intentions have never been for the good of the community. We are “deadly serious about this issue” and this is not a game. Contributing to underprivileged children is not a game, any insinuation of that is disheartening.
They did not have to accept our challenge, but they could have found common ground with us and helped children start the school year prepared and engaged to learn.
They cited Big Daddy Guns has an immense amount of resources compared to their group which is commentary that falls short for a few reasons. First, they tout a growing list of signatures on a petition in opposition to the store. With over 2000 supposed signees, at a contribution level of $5.00 per person, they had the opportunity to raise the funds themselves. Second, regardless of accepting our challenge, they too could have raised funds for Monongalia County. Instead, they chose to call our charitable work a “gimmicky fundraiser.”
As they continue to spread deceitful and misleading information about our organization, we are taking a boots-on-the-ground approach to raise funds for a worthy cause.
As of this release, Big Daddy Guns has proudly raised $1,325 for this cause by calling for public attention. In speaking to our supporters, many of them had not known about this program, but jumped at the opportunity to provide aid. Protect Morgantown claims we are “dipping into the pockets of Morgantown residents.” This inflammatory comment does little to portray the truth; we exposed a community need and found highly-motivated patriots willing to make a difference! Additionally, at the end of the campaign, Tony and Sherrie McKnight, co-owners of Big Daddy Guns, will be making a separate contribution to aid the movement.
In speaking to the Deputy Sheriff’s Association (DSA), our organization would like to make it clear that they are not affiliated with our fundraiser from any official standpoint. They did reach out to us personally for donation, and even initially approved our method of fundraising.
To use their words, they are an “A-political, non-profit organization… are currently at the end of our solicitation period as we begin working with other organizations in the county to prepare backpacks and school supplies for this fall. Any donation that was raised would be happily received…”
The only major development the Mon County DSA provided today is that we must expedite our efforts in order to be properly utilized for this fundraiser. As such, we are moving the deadline to Monday, August 8th, for all efforts. Please make your donation before then so that we can properly transfer the funds.
Our mission is to educate, motivate, and activate people into the Second Amendment movement. In this case, we used that mission to educate the community about an unmet need for local, underprivileged children, motivated the interest, and activated the donors into providing for almost five children in less than 24 hours.
This has and always will be about helping underprivileged children in the Mon County community. If Protect Morgantown cannot find cause to aid this worthy effort, that is not only their loss, but a loss for the community.
At the end of the day, they are only airing their complaints against our organization, and we are making a difference. Actions speak louder than words.
Protect Morgantown, there is still time to do the right thing. Please help our community and participate in the fundraising.

Seems like a pretty pitiful amount of money. Based on the actual social media attention BDG is getting in the Morgantown area, it seems like everyone except the few right wing conspiracy theorists in town want BDG to pull out of downtown.
We will gladly accept any money you raise for our underprivileged kids, but we don’t want your store, and we don’t want your horrible marketing tactics and ethics in our town. Your own instagram account has no comments from supporters and your facebook account has a few comments from people, but no real amount of traction.
You can’t call an organization weak for not participating in a trap of a contest to put them out of business. They’ll raise money for our community on their own terms.
Leave. Us. Alone.
